HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is scheduled to begin a road rehabilitation project on Kapi‘olani Boulevard from Ward Avenue to Atkinson Drive on Monday, November 16, 2026, and the work is expected to last approximately 18 months. Day work will take place Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). Night work may occur during later phases of the project.

The $9.9 million project has been awarded to Hiʻilawe Construction, LLC. The work will include removing and replacing existing asphalt pavement on Kapiʻolani Boulevard with new asphalt pavement. Work will also include constructing new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, trimming and removing trees and roots (if necessary), adjusting manhole covers and utility boxes, and installing traffic signals, vehicle loop detectors, pavement striping, and signage. Periodic lane closures will be required, but the contractor will keep at least one lane open in each direction at all times. The number of lanes closed may vary depending on the work being conducted.
