The Hawaiʻi State Legislature’s annual Art at the Capitol event welcomes the public into participating offices after hours to view artworks from the
Art in Public Places Collection and to enjoy live performances at the State Capitol.

Free admission, all ages welcome. Details to be announced by participating legislators.

The Friends of Capitol Modern invite you to The Mod Gala 2025: Botanical Rhapsody fundraiser for the Hawai’i State Art Museum (Capitol Modern).

Ages 21 and over. Admission tickets start at $90.

Capitol Modern is one of 14 exhibition and programming venues for Hawaiʻi Triennial 2025. This is Hawaiʻi’s largest thematic contemporary art exhibition!

Friday tours 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. guided by HT25 Curator Noelle Kahanu.

UPCOMING EXHIBIT
MID-PACIFIC SCHOOL OF THE ARTS STUDENT EXHIBIT
APRIL 7 - 24, 2025

The
SFCA Art in Public Places Program and the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts are partnering on a pilot program for arts education. “Stories from Nature”, an exhibit of student works will be at Capitol Modern April 7 - 24, 2025 in the Turnaround Gallery (second floor, back of the Lēʻahi Gallery). Students from Mid-Pacific Kindergarten and first and second grades engaged in a deep investigation of the natural world and the works on display will be artifacts from this ongoing exploration.

MOD GALA FUNDRAISER

SUPPORT PUBLIC FUNDING FOR ARTS AND CULTURE IN HAWAIʻI

HAWAIʻI ARTS ALLIANCE
Get updates and tips on how you can support public funding for arts and culture in Hawaiʻi from the Hawaiʻi Arts Alliance, a nonprofit arts advocacy organization. Subscribe to Hawaiʻi Arts Alliance email news for Action Alerts on bills and hearings, fact sheets, templates for testimony, and more. Recent action alerts from the Hawaiʻi Arts Alliance have included:

Supporting emergency grant-in-aid funding for Hawaiʻi nonprofit arts and culture organizations impacted by federal cuts and executive orders (Action Alert: Support Emergency Grant Funding for Hawaiʻi’s Nonprofits (SB933).

•   
Opposing HB1378-HD2-SD1, a bill that would dismantle the Works of Art Special Fund. This would have a significant negative impact on Hawaiʻi State Art Museum (Capitol Modern) daily operations and programming. (Action Alert: Contact WAM Senators to Oppose HB1378-HD2-SD1).

    The free, contemporary public art gallery of Hawai‘i has evolved and rebranded, debuting a new name, creative gathering spaces and calendar of events. Formerly called the Hawai‘i State Art Museum (HISAM), the name Capitol Modern is meant to better reflect its location in Honolulu’s historic Capitol District and the vibrant modern art experience people have come to love.
