Honolulu Zoo elephant Mari to cheer on the Bengals this Super Bowl Sunday

Mari picked the watermelon with the Bengals logo, indicating she wants Cincinnati to win Sunday’s big game!

Waikīkī – On Thursday, Mari, the Honolulu Zoo’s 46-year-old Asian elephant, picked the Cincinnati Bengals as the team she wants to win Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, California.

As zoo visitors watched in anticipation, Mari showed her support for the young quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals as the program seek its first Super Bowl win since joining the NFL in 1970, and play spoiler to the Los Angeles Rams playing in their home stadium.

“It’s the year of the tiger, so perhaps it’s not surprising Mari picked the Bengals,” said Linda Santos, Honolulu Zoo director. “Elephants are incredibly intelligent and compassionate. They have the ability to show empathy as well as comfort one another when distressed. I believe Mari made this pick with her heart. She also successfully predicted the winner last year, anticipating that Tom Brady and the Buccaneers would beat the Kansas City Chiefs.”
