DRAFT COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, MAY 10, 2018
MCCOY PAVILLION, ALA MOANA REGIONAL PARK

CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Ryan Tam called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

IN ATTENDANCE: Ryan Tam (Chair), James Danner, Sharon Moriwaki, Chris Chung

ALA WAI PROMENADE IMPROVEMENTS
??? Recap of briefings to the McCully-Mo ili ili Neighborhood Board No. 8 and Waikiki Neighborhood Board No. 9; boards intend to take up resolutions of support in June 2018.
• Councilmembers Ann Kobayashi and Trevor Ozawa will be adding it to the capital budget.

HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY (HECO) SITE
• Moriwaki and Danner will prepare a draft resolution; Tam to prepare a site map.

ALA MOANA PARK
• Discussion re: homeless people have moved to Mother Waldron Park.
• Mother Waldron citizen's patrols go out on Mondays at 5:30pm.
• Kaka ako Makai park shelter for families has a 90% success rate of placement.
• Existing plan for a hygiene center is at the Next Step shelter; facilities could be further expanded.
• Discussion about idea for a medical treatment center, in order to alleviate demand on hospital and emergency management services. Potential to get the John A. Burns School of Medicine students involved in helping.
• Discussion of an idea for a hygiene truck.
• Potential to incorporate hygiene center as part of the HECO/Blaisdell redevelopment.
• Idea for increased police presence via a Koban (police box).

OTHER RESIDENT CONCERNS:
• Question on Department of Transportation Services (DTS) progress towards installation of traffic light on King Street at the police station.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next committee meeting is Thursday, June 14, 2018.

ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further business before the Committee, Chair Tam adjourned the meeting at 7:19 p.m.
